Communications and digital media expert Tim Norton has written a guide book on strategic use of social media, and it’s free.

Entitled Social Media Strategies for Advocacy and Targeted Communications, you can download it here.

It very handy for both new and experienced users of social media. Features include:

  • A discussion of how to formulate a communications plan – including defining the goals, mapping the audience, identifying the targets, managing human resources;
  • Summaries on using social media and other supporting platforms, such as twitter, Facebook, Google plus, flickr, YouTube;
  • Tips on how to move forward once your campaign is launched – monitoring the conversation, responding to criticism, evaluation; and
  • Many recent examples of successful use of social media interspersed throughout the text.
